Information on the Rainbow Trout
Rainbow trout are a fresh water fish. They are aggressive fish in that they put up a great fight for the fisherman. Maybe because of this rainbow trout are one of the most popular types of game fish available. Rainbow trout tend to be one of the most sought after fish out there. Their meat is only one reason for this as the thrill of catching this fish is far greater! Rainbow trout range in size from a foot to a foot and a half up to 30 inches in some cases. Their weight ranges from two pounds up to about eight pounds. They are also known as steelhead trout, coast rainbow trout, or silver trout. Rainbow trout range in color but most are blue to blue green, yellowish green to a light colored brown on their backs. Their sides are silvery while their bottoms are a silver white color. You can find rainbow trout in several areas including the Great Lakes region of North America and west of the Rocky Mountains in fresh water lakes and streams. Their native region is actually the eastern Pacific Ocean. In recent years, rainbow trout have been introduced to several areas including South America, Africa, Japan, New Zealand, and in parts of Asia and Europe. People who plan to do some rainbow trout fishing will need to know several things about this fish. First of all, realize that these fish like to fight and are aggressive by nature. They tend to be difficult fish to reel in. The angler or fly fisherman will find them to be a great challenge. Also, rainbow trout tend to stay in the upper 30-35 feet of water so there are easy to spot. Getting into the boat, well, that is determined by the fisherman's skill. But, these fish are a great catch and anyone who is interested in doing some rainbow trout fishing, should ensure that they have nice, strong equipment and a good sense of how to deal with a struggling fish! Generally an oceanic species, the swordfish is primarily a midwater fish at depths of 650-1970 feet (200-600 m) and water temperatures of 64 to 71°F (18-22°C). Fish Cooking Basics
I must admit that I have met more than a few fishermen that know every trick in the book to catch fish, but after they have caught it, have no idea what to do with it. So if you are still wondering what you should be doing with those fish you caught, I have some help for you. The basic techniques for turning those fish into food are very simple and I have outlined the basic information and cooking methods for you.
10 minutes to the inch
Whether you are grilling, frying, baking, poaching, steaming of broiling your fish, the basic rule is that it will take 8-10 minutes of cooking time for every inch of thickness. The biggest mistake most people make in cooking fish is to over cook it. Now if the fish is frozen, count on 20 minutes per inch.
It starts at the water
Fish can degrade quickly after you catch it. One thing you can do to prevent this is kill the fish as quickly as possible. Smack it in the head with a club, then cut the gills with a knife. This will bleed the fish out quickly and slow down spoilage.
You caught it, you clean it
OK, so you probably know this already, but you need to clean the innards out, using a sharpknife and your thumb or narrow spoon. The longer you leave that stuff in there, the more chance it will have to start messing with the fish's flavor.
When is it done?
The classical definition is that fish is done when it hits 160° and the juices run clear. Stick a fork into the thickest portion and twist gently. It should be flaky, but please, what ever you do, don't let it cook into dry nastiness.

Well, I am the youngest of three boys of a single mother. My oldest brother was six years older than I was and loved the outdoors. On occasion he would take me with him and his friends to go fishing.
