Why a Blacklight Will Take Your Night Fishing To A New Level
If You Have Never Used A Blacklight While Night Fishing, You're Missing Out We all know the benefits of night fishing - bigger catches and calmer waters are just two, however, night fishermen have several challenges that "day time" fishermen do not have to deal with. One of the most difficult challenges is, of course, being able to see your line to find out if you have had a hit. Here is one way of easily being able to watch your line at night. Use a blacklight and a fluorescent fishing line. When fishing at night, it may be a few seconds before you know you have one on the line. By this time, the fish could already be under your boat or have begun it's mad dash to the opposite shoreline. By using a blacklight, your florescent line will glow in the dark, making it sometimes easier to see your line than during the day. You'll be amazed at how your line lights up in the dark waters. There are several types of blacklights on the market specifically made for night fishermen. Probably the most popular is the "Stan Sloan" brand. Cabela's also has an Optronics brand blacklight they are selling for about $50. Just as important as the blacklight is the type of line you use with it. Berkley makes a great flame green fireline florescent line that works well with blacklight night fishing as well. The reason this particular line works so well is because the florescent coloring is not painted on the line, but rather is chemically mixed into the actual line during production, which means the color lasts much longer than other brands. P-Line also makes a good fluorescent line that is clear. You will need to test to determine which one works best for you. The use of a blacklight during night fishing is a common debate among avid fishermen. Some think the black lights may spook certain fish, others couldn't live without using them. Give it a shot and see for yourself. You may be pleasantly surprised with the results. Swordfish and Swordfishing
Generally an oceanic species, the swordfish is primarily a midwater fish at depths of 650-1970 feet (200-600 m) and water temperatures of 64 to 71°F (18-22°C). Although mainly a warm-water species, the swordfish has the widest temperature tolerance of any billfish, and can be found in waters from 41-80°F (5-27°C). The swordfish is commonly observed in surface waters, although it is believed to swim to depths of 2,100 feet (650 m) or greater, where the water temperature may be just above freezing. One adaptation that allows for swimming in such cold water is the presence of a "brain heater," a large bundle of tissue associated with one of the eye muscles, which insulates and warms the brain. Blood is supplied to the tissue through a specialized vascular heat exchanger, similar to the counter current exchange found in some tunas. This helps prevent rapid cooling and damage to the brain as a result of extreme vertical movements.

The Challenge of Brown Trout Fishing
Brown trout fishing can prove very challenging. This is due in part to the fact that brown trout are smart fish. They tend to feed at dusk or at night. They do put up a fight though and that can be a great challenge to the fisherman. But, because of the difficultly to catch the brown trout, this fish has not been a big time game fish. But, there is much to know about it anyway.
Fishing the Points
Sometimes bass fishing in a big lake can be overwhelming. Do you fish deep? Fish the banks? Are they out in open water? What?
This will depend on the lake, the time of year, the time of day and many other factors such as air and water temperature. There is no short answer; no hard and fast rule. But mostly, to put yourself on fish, you are going to be looking for cover and structure.
Cover is vegetation and things like that where bass can hide. Structure is things like drop offs, road beds, creeks, stumps and such.
There is a good way to combine these and that is to look for points on the lake; especially points near quick drop offs and creek channels.
Points are areas of the shore that come to a 'point' in the lake. Often these will be on the outside of, or the entrance to, coves, but not always. That's just to give you an idea of how one might look. It simply sticks out from the rest of the shoreline.
Quick drop offs are important because bass will hang around these points and depend on the drop offs as an escape route in case trouble comes calling. So if you see a point in just a few feet of water, and see that not too far from the point the water quickly gets deep, this point might be a good prospect for holding fish.
The point itself should be fished thoroughly, but you should also seek bass along the sides of points, especially if there is cover like grass, weeds, reeds, etc. If the point is off of a cove, very early morning or the evening might be a good time to fish the cove. But, as the day progresses hit the points.
If you don't find the bass on the point, try the deeper water next to the point. They may have retreated to it as the daylight and the heat came. Bass try to avoid sunlight because it hurts their eyes.
I prefer to use plastics on points; worms, crawfish and lizards. I like to Texas Rig these to be weedless. I also like to use a Carolina Rig which helps to keep the bait in the strike zone longer and gives it a little more action. You could also do well using a spinnerbait or crankbait.
So, very early in the morning hit the coves. As the bite slows, you will want to move out to the points where the fish have gone. Then, as that bite slows, try fishing plastics in the deeper waters next to the points. As evening comes on, you will reverse this process, heading back to the points, then into the coves.
It's important to understand the movement of the fish and keep up with them. Certainly, you will find a lone drifter now and then, but using this method you will be much more likely to be consistent in your catch.

There is a fairly new technique when it comes to bass fishing but it works great especially when bass are under a lot of pressure, it's called drop-shotting. When you see other fishermen using worms and fishing the edges of creek channels, try this and fish the bottom of the channels instead of the edges. It's also good around boat docks and bridges and in shallow water when the bass are bedding.
